This itinerary is our proposed plan for the route and is being confirmed with the operator. Treat the day order as indicative — we confirm the final programme when you book a departure.
This is the classic northern kite route out of Hurghada. The Strait of Gubal is a cluster of low islands and sandbanks that produce exactly what riders want: waist-deep turquoise lagoons, mirror-flat water in the lee of the sand, and steady northerly wind funnelled between the mainland and Sinai.
The route is deliberately not fixed. The captain and the kite guide look at the forecast a day or two ahead and pick the anchorage that will work, which is why a boat gets you sessions a beach cannot. Tawila is usually the flattest water of the trip and the freestyle spot; Ashrafi is more exposed with open-sea swell and suits stronger riders; Abu Moungar and Gessum sit in between.
Between sessions the yacht stays at anchor — you ride, come back for lunch, and go out again when the wind fills in. There is no shore transfer and no waiting for a lift.
Highlights
- Flat, waist-deep lagoons at Tawila
- Wind-led anchoring — the spot changes with the forecast
- Tender shuttles straight from the yacht to the water
- Open-sea and flat-water options in the same trip
- Uncrowded riding away from the hotel beaches
Day-by-day itinerary
- 1
Day 1: Embarkation in Hurghada
Board in the afternoon, cabin allocation and a safety briefing. Gear check and rigging space assigned. Overnight at anchor near Hurghada.
- 2
Day 2: Sail north to Gubal
Early sail into the Strait of Gubal. First session in the lee of the island once the wind fills in, with a second session in the afternoon if conditions hold.
- 3
Day 3: Tawila lagoons
Anchor off Tawila for the flattest water of the trip. Long sessions in shallow, standable lagoon water — the day most riders come for.
- 4
Day 4: Tawila and Gessum
A second day on the sandbanks, moving between anchorages as the wind swings. Coaching available for riders working on transitions or first jumps.
- 5
Day 5: Ashrafi Islands
More exposed water with open-sea swell alongside flat sections. Best suited to confident riders; the guide will call it based on the day.
- 6
Day 6: Abu Moungar
Shallow turquoise water and space to ride without traffic. Downwinder between anchorages when the wind direction allows.
- 7
Day 7: Sail south and final sessions
Last sessions on the way back towards Hurghada, then a slow evening at anchor with the gear rinsed and packed.
- 8
Day 8: Disembarkation
Breakfast onboard, check-out and airport transfer.
