Kite safaris on the Red Sea

Kite liveaboard trips

Sleep on the boat, wake up at the spot. A week between the sandbanks of the Strait of Gubal, anchoring wherever the forecast says the wind will be best.

The short answer

What is a kite safari?

A kite safari is a multi-day trip where you live on a boat and ride the spots the boat takes you to. You sleep in a cabin, eat onboard, and a tender drops you into shallow lagoons that have no road access and no crowd.

The difference from riding at a centre is that the spot comes to you. Nothing is fixed to a beach or a shuttle timetable — the captain reads the forecast a day or two ahead and moves the yacht to the anchorage that will work. If the wind swings, so does the boat.

Trips run for seven nights out of Hurghada through the Strait of Gubal: Tawila, Gubal, the Ashrafi Islands, Abu Moungar and Gessum. Between sessions you are back aboard for lunch, and out again as soon as the wind fills in.

Who it suits
Riders who go upwind independently and can self-launch and self-land. You are away from a beach and rely on a tender pick-up.
How long
Seven nights, embarking and disembarking in Hurghada. Airport transfers on both ends are included.
Where you ride
The low islands and sandbanks of the Strait of Gubal — waist-deep turquoise water in the lee of the sand.
Non-riders
Welcome. Cabins are sold on a two-sharing basis and there is a sun deck, jacuzzi, shaded lounge and two bars aboard.

Best season

April to October, with the most reliable wind between May and September. Outside that window we still run charters, but we will tell you honestly what the forecast usually does.

How booking works

  1. 1

    Pick a departure

Choose the dates that suit you. Each departure shows the boat, the route, the price per person and how many places are left.

  2. 2

    Send an enquiry

Tell us how many of you there are and which cabin you would like. Nothing is charged at this point.

  3. 3

    We confirm and hold

We check the cabin against the operator, come back with the final total and hold your place for 48 hours.

  4. 4

    Deposit secures it

A 30% deposit confirms the booking. The balance is due 60 days before you sail, and we send the full joining details.

Questions before you commit? WhatsApp us on +20 114 199 9957 — we would rather talk you out of the wrong trip than sell you one.

Liveaboard questions

What is a kite liveaboard safari?
You live aboard a yacht for the week and it anchors wherever the wind is best, so you ride flat lagoons that have no road access and almost no other riders. Tenders take you from the boat to the water. It suits independent riders — you should already ride upwind and self-launch.
