This is the stage where kitesurfing becomes riding. You move from the beach into the water, learn to body drag downwind and upwind, and practise a full self-rescue — including packing the kite down while you are still in the water.

Then the board comes out. You will learn the launch position, get your first water starts, ride short distances in both directions, and stop under control. The first successful ride is the moment most people book the trip for.

Courses at Kite Dates ECC follow VDWS standards, and we issue certification through VDWS, the Association of German Watersports Schools.

Who this is for

Level 1 kite control, or an equivalent introduction elsewhere. We check your kite handling before going in the water.

Minimum age 8.

Step by step

Course itinerary

Each stage starts where the one before it finished.

  1. 1

    Body dragging

    Day 1

Downwind and upwind body drags — the skill that lets you retrieve a lost board without help.

  2. 2

    Self-rescue

    Day 1

Securing the kite, packing down in the water and swimming in safely. Practised until it is repeatable.

  3. 3

    Right of way and pre-start

    Day 1

Who gives way to whom, and the checks you run every single time before you start.

  4. 4

    First water starts

    Day 2

Board on, launch position, and popping up onto the board. Expect several attempts — everyone does.

  5. 5

    Riding and stopping

    Day 2

Short rides in both directions and stopping under control rather than crashing out.

Safety

Every session starts with a spot and weather briefing. You are taught the safety systems before the kite leaves the ground, and you practise releasing them on land before you use them on the water. Instructors stay within reach during water sessions, radios and a rescue boat cover the riding area, and sessions are shortened or moved if the wind becomes unsuitable. Helmets and impact protection are provided and worn during all lessons.

Meeting point

Kite Dates ECC centre, El Ahia Street, Hurghada — or your hotel lobby if you are using the free transfer.

Questions about this course

How long does Level 2 & 3 take?
It is booked as a multi-session course rather than a fixed block, because water time depends on wind. Most students spread it across two days. Confirm the exact hours with us when you book — we will tell you honestly what your level needs.
Will I be riding by the end?
Most students get their first rides in this course. How far you get depends on wind consistency, your water confidence and how much time you put in. We will not pretend everyone leaves riding upwind — that is Level 4 & 5.
Is the water deep?
We teach in shallow, flat lagoon water where you can stand. That is the single biggest reason beginners progress quickly in Hurghada.

Social proof

What students say

  • Setzels

Really nice spot, good for everybody, from beginner to pro because of the conditions there — steady wind, not crowded. The instructors are very friendly and teach really well. After kiting you sit around with the crew, drink coffee or good tea and talk about your practice and what you can do better the next day. Pick-up service from the hotel was the best, and for free, and always on time. If the wind is not good you don’t go out, so you don’t pay for bad conditions — that’s great. I definitely recommend it. The kite rental was also very good, nice equipment.
